Sessions are structured and informed around our client's unique career and study aspirations, unpacked with a needs assessment for individual and group clients. During individual sessions, the practitioner accesses each client’s occupational and study profile history to provide meaningful information and guidance. Sessions are typically augmented with live digital presentations, statistics, occupational trends, research and state-reported labour market information, work-based competencies, career future outlook, local and international career/study data, and conversations held as a two-way engagement.

With technology and connectivity enablement, career guidance information sessions can take place virtually anywhere in South Africa. Sound out your options, plan for your career, and make study choices with the information you need. Host a session from the comfort of your own space with convenient timeslot availability throughout the year.

All our career information services align with the code of ethics for our practitioners and their professionally designated duties and scope of practice. We conduct all sessions in line with our standard career services agreement, consent, and POPI data protection agreements, which are accessible to all clients on our website.

Our depth of study information guidance provides clients greater insight into the education system and unpacks what this means for their study options. Information can be drilled down to a granular level of detail for learning pathways on the National Qualification Framework (NQF). From General and Further Education and Training (GFETQSF), apprenticeships, skills programmes, learnerships, and Occupational Qualifications (OQSF) to Vocational and Higher Education Qualifications (HEQSF). Progress, articulate, and broaden your knowledge with study options fitting your career goals and requirements. From school learners to students, those entering or seeking employment, to employed youth or adults, and entry-level to middle and seasoned professionals.

All career and study information sessions are backed by our developed self-exploration activities, toolkits and resources, local and international career information databases, comprehensive career information session reports, and referrals. Group career information sessions can be arranged at sites across South Africa as career talks, days, fairs, or corporate career events.

Frequently Asked Questions

Career development services are an umbrella term used to describe all the activities intended to assist individuals of any age and at any point throughout their lives in making educational, training, and occupational choices and managing their careers. Registered Career Development Practitioners are certified to provide clients with information about career and study choices and how to access their career paths. This is aimed at empowering clients to make more informed career-related decisions.

Career and study decisions are some of the most important life choices. We often expend copious amounts of time and effort making decisions daily. Such as deciding on the brand of car we want to drive or the best smartphone to meet our needs. However, how much time and effort do we invest in deciding what to study or making career choices? Globally and in South Africa, not all individuals can access quality information and guidance when making critical career and study decisions. Adding to the conundrum is that certain significant career and study options are decided during schooling when a learner may not have adequate knowledge or information about the world of work or their career self-identity. When making career and study choices, we often have to balance our own career self-identity, goals, talents and abilities with suitable career choices/paths. In addition to this complexity, we are usually faced with broad questions such as;

How can I harness my unique abilities and strengths to choose a fitting career? Will my career choice be sustainable in the future? What qualification(s), skills and experience must I pursue to enter or progress in my career path? What entrance marks do I need to qualify? What subjects should I select to pursue a given career path? What funds would I require to study? Which institutions can I apply to? What other considerations must I make when I choose to study or pursue a career? What are my options for Recognition of Prior Learning? How can I start, articulate or progress my qualifications?

The list of questions about careers is almost endless. They are diverse and unique to each individual, and with good reason. Career and study decisions significantly influence your life, it's associated components, and the lives of those around you, so it’s worth asking as many questions as possible and discussing career and study options with a professional.

Career Development Practitioners are vital in guiding and providing clients with career and study information based on their unique needs and career journey. With the correct information and guidance, clients are better placed to make informed decisions in a dialogic, caring, and supportive environment. Having a qualified practitioner by your side can help you connect the dots and get the correct information in a constantly evolving world of work.

Career development can benefit people of all ages, stages of careers, and backgrounds. School learners seek information to plan subjects and mark achievements to apply to an institution of learning. Working or previously employed adults regularly seek information to grow, change, or transition into a new/alternative career path.

People of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from quality career and study information to make more informed decisions.

There are several factors to consider. Each factor will differ from individual to individual, but some commonalities include (but are not limited to):

  • Your unique career self-identity: Talents, skills, attributes, experience, life purpose, and fit with the occupational environment.
  • Study requirements: Learning pathways, qualification entry, duration, institution and accreditation requirements, qualification-specific resources and equipment, student support services, work-service periods and funding options.
  • Occupational-specific information: Employment trends, levels, performance measures, specialisations, articulation and progression options, career pathing, professional registration, and scarce and critical skills in demand.
  • Lifestyle considerations: Workplace conditions, work-life balance, geographical location of work, earning requirements/potential, and other sustainability factors.
